Re: Coroner critises UK driving eyesight test
For MP's expenses they should just do it like any other organisation/company.
If they need to book travel/accommodation they contact a central admin person who books it for them. They will use pre-arranged agreements with providers where appropriate to get most cost effective solutions and ensure what is provided is within policy.
If they are expected to live away from home to perform there job (eg an MP from outside of London) they should receive a set subsistence allowance, which is adequate to pay for reasonable accommodation etc. If they choose to live in cheaper accommodation to save their subsistence that is fair enough.

Isn’t that how it works already, with the ability to “commute” the allowance to use the money towards a second home if they decide to?If they are expected to live away from home to perform there job (eg an MP from outside of London) they should receive a set subsistence allowance, which is adequate to pay for reasonable accommodation etc.
The rules and processes changed massively after 2010, and a lot of the “MPs are all living like royalty on expenses” meme is a hangover from the time of duck houses etc. mind you, take any 600 people, and within that group you’ll find some greedy, self-entitled b’stards (maybe two or three percent?).

We do seem to be struggling a little to stick to the topic here?

It's a conversation and IME that's sometimes how they range. It's part of the experience and the enjoymentratherbeintobago wrote: ↑22 Apr 2025, 9:26am We do seem to be struggling a little to stick to the topic here?
If you ask about adjusting a Shimano 6700 RD then you'd expect a narrower focus
Oh gosh, here we go off on another tangent

Why do you think MPs should be prevented from supporting independent and locally owned businesses? Sounds like a bung to big chains!

Re: Coroner critises UK driving eyesight test

In this day and age MPs would waste a lot less time, travel and money by virtual appearances in Parliament, supporting businesses in their constituency.
They're well-paid enough to support local businesses elsewhere if they so choose. It could just as easily be a national voucher scheme that pays a basic accommodation amount that can be topped up by MPs at their B&B of choice at their expense.
There's nothing to prevent them buying everything else locally; meals, toiletries, PJs, bikes, etc.
I've seen the film, "Personal Services", maybe there are some drawbacks, though

Thanks for posting it- I'm certainly going to include it with any replies about 'dangerous cyclists', hi-vis or compulsory helmets...Jdsk wrote: ↑7 May 2025, 11:50amThe PFD report that started this thread:Jdsk wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025, 9:05am PFD reports usually appear here, but I can't see this one yet:
