Moderator note - Discussion split off from this thread in the For Sale board - viewtopic.php?t=164980.
I guess the post from admin can be translated to if I agree with the politics then businesses / charity posts are okay. I am sure the membership will appreciate clarification of what is and is not acceptable. It would be grossly unfair to exclude some charities / businesses and not others without prior knowledge of the new rules.

Re: Advert on behalf of a charity on the For Sale board
My understanding is that the odd exception has been been made in the past for a charity bike sale for a special event. I don't know what the 'politics', if any, of the beneficiaries were in those cases, but the issue is analogous to allowing posts promoting charity events. We get a lot of requests to advertise charity events, and regardless of the cause/politics they are almost invariably turned down unless they fulfil the requirements detailed in this post - viewtopic.php?t=92288.
The reason for those rules and why they are generally enforced so rigidly, regardless of how deserving some (including the moderators) might consider the cause, is because prior to their being adopted there were significant numbers of complaints and problems with posts promoting charity events, which caused a lot of work for the moderators. For the same reason we have not allowed sales of bikes by charities, because of the potential it has to cause a lot of extra work for the moderators.
I initially removed the For Sale thread on receipt of a report, but in the course of documenting what I had done for the information of the other moderators, I realised that rscrase is the OP of the thread 'Building bikes to last - feature for Cycle magazine' - viewtopic.php?t=156659, and this article: https://www.cyclinguk.org/cycle-magazin ... built-last, which was prompted by their experiences working on bikes as a Cyclox volunteer in Oxford repairing donated bikes for key workers. On reflection I concluded that it would be consistent with the spirit of the rules for charity events to make a one-off exception in this single instance. In other words, it's not about the 'politics' of the charity, but about support of/alignment with CUK. The contribution of an article to the CUK magazine by an existing forum member justified making an exception in this case.
