Hi,
My husband has entered 2 sportives in France. He usually sees his GP and gets a signed certificate after having monitored his blood pressure for a few weeks. I phoned this morning and got him an appointment but they later cancelled it saying the practice does not do it now and he will have to see a private GP. Can anyone recommend anyone in the Edinburgh area?

I have found places online where you can fill in some answers to questions and will give you a medical certificate.

Sorry, to be nosy, but just curious. Is this a requirement of the Sportive organiser - or your own health insurance? thanks

If it’s the etape du tour, then it’s the organisers who insist on a medical certificate

Likewise for events like Paris-Brest-Paris, indeed i've friends who have taken up French residency post brexit in order to be able to use a place they own as a base to explore further afield in europe, they have to have a yearly medical certificate to ride with their local club.TrevA wrote: 27 May 2025, 2:41pm If it’s the etape du tour, then it’s the organisers who insist on a medical certificate

Re: Obtaining a Fitness Certificate for French Sportives
Hi,
It is not for personal insurance , it is for the events.
My husband has just completed the Marmotte GranFondo Alpes.
Update.
Husband got a certificate online.
Completed one event. Came home. Checked email and there was something from the Étape du Tour people. It said the medical certificate was invalid. There was no way to contact them.
I resent the certificate using a link in a previous email. The next day there was an email saying the certificate was fine.
I was stressed about it as I had paid for the self catering apartment and it was too close to the event date to get a refund.
On another forum, someone informed me that a lot of people self certify using the following.
For future reference, events in France now have a Self certify system, used this for the L'ardechoise recently..
https://compte.ffc.fr/account/new/
and then going here
https://licence.ffc.fr/profil/attestationSante/
only valid for 4 months but it's free and you can just get another one when you need.
