As advised to duplicate this post in this thread. Which is why the first couple of paragraphs may appear odd but were relevant originally

It has been an interesting thread and putting aside some fears of carbon and dependency on torque wrenches we all await the outcome.
The thread has also been full on support for Spa Cycles and their bikes. I’ve been a happy Spa customer since my first telephone order 40 years ago and I have no complaints. I do though feel a need to give some balance to the thread and will relate two experiences from people whose opinion I respect. They won’t outweigh the good reviews but are I believe relevant to this thread.
1. A lady at the Birthday Rides extremely unhappy with her Spa bike and had been back with it twice for modifications. Her comment, they ignore what I ask for and do what they think I should have.

2 A good friend who has had many new bikes over his lifetime. His last buy was a Croix de Fer bought at a very good price from Spa. He says it was delivered as the worst prepped bike he’s ever received. Whether that criticism lands with Genesis or Spa I don’t know but I do know he’ll never buy another bike from Spa.
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

Just received a crankset for a kids road bike.
After unpacking it, it was obvious that the part was not new it had lots of marks that indicate it had been mounted on a bike and there was even dirt on it.
i am in France so to save the hassle, time and money and the loss of* import tax on it I offered him a solution that he could giv3 a partial refund.
I emailed with photos and received a reply that denied the reality of the photos. It is plain that he Is trying to pass off a used item as if it is new.
He said he would take a return of it if I paid for it? And said that he would not reimburse the cost or the tax. I have refused and told him to send me prepaid return ticket and to compensate me for the inconvenience.
His tone is belligerent and unpleasant.

I also got evasive, belligerent and unpleasant response when I complained. Some years ago now, haven't bought anything from them since.

Another order from Spa Cycles completed successfully. I rang them for a bit of advice, then ordered on line. They have been my go to shop for their excellent choice of components, especially since Chain Reaction bit the dust.

By co-incidence, I just came across this youtube video about Spa Cycles chainsets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaA5zu859nY

To cut to the chase, they get the thumbs up.

Note.
One minor issue I've encountered with the TD2 chainset is that the catch-pin of the Spa Cycles outer
chainwheel needs to be dressed down (shortened) as if this is not done it fouls the inside face of the crank arm.
Not a big deal - 5mins with a warding file and the job is done.
But it has to be done, otherwise the outer chainwheel will buckle when torqued to the spider and will not run true.

I have used Spa cycles for many a year . Over recent times I have purchased two frame sets.
Titanium audax.
Wayfarer.
One complete machine .Titanium Elan tourer built to my spec . This machine has met and more often exceed my expectations.
An initial visit sorted out frame size required steerer tube length handle bar width. Gearing specification front and rear .[This included try before you buy machine which I could of used for a couple of hours if required ]
Wheel spec including required spoke count.
Before building commenced I received a full specification sheet which allowed for any changes by myself. Once signed off assembly took place.
I collected the completed bicycle after about 3 weeks .
5 stars from me for the service I had received .
