How's your weather?

Torching all those Police jam jars isnt doing much for global warming!

Re: How's your weather?
It's been a cool spring here in Sweden, with May's average high only about 16.3c, which is over 4c down on last year.
Hot now though. 25c today, and a bit warmer tomorrow. I have Vätternrundan tomorrow. It's 315km around Sweden's second largest lake and I'm riding with a large team with a goal of sub 8hrs. That should be fairly easily doable as the weather forecast seems ideal, but I do struggle in the heat somewhat.
Because the lake is so large (1900 sq km), it has it's own weather, and it looks almost like the breeze is going clockwise, which is the same direction as us. I wouldn't be surprised if we were close to 7:30, which is an average of around 42kph.

Re: How's your weather?
7hrs 46.46 was my final time. Conditions were fast, but it was painfully hot and dehydration was an issue for many of us. I feel like I have a lot more in the tank. If it had been 20c, instead of 28-30c, I would have had an extra 30-40w and wouldn't have been feeling sick between 200-300km.
It was a great experience though. I think with the right team, I can ultimately get close to 7:15.

Re: How's your weather?
A predicted 27c here in South Wales later in the week, with a possibility of 30c, and I am not looking forward to it. My ideal is about 20c, possibly a little less. High twenties for me is well into "uncomfortable" territory. Not so bad on a bike, where you get a near constant breeze from movement, but too warm to enjoy walking.

Re: How's your weather?
We've just spent a week in Herefordshire, cycling and walking in temperatures hovering around the 30 mark.
Blazing sun most days and very humid nights.
Drove home yesterday, greeted by gale force winds.
Lovely and calm this morning.
Mrs. Copy did the washing and as she raised her arms to peg it on the line, it started raining.
Had about four short showers since and wait with baited breath for the forecast downpours this afternoon.

On the upside, the brief shower we had this morning removed the need for me to water the runner beans. And the forecast 25c this afternoon is much closer to my ideal than the 29c we had yesterday.fausto copy wrote: 21 Jun 2025, 11:49am We've just spent a week in Herefordshire, cycling and walking in temperatures hovering around the 30 mark.

Muggy and overcast in Taunton. Short shower cleared the air a little. 78 degrees, humidity 60%.
Chaotic traffic jams galore as they closed the A3065 one way until September and diverted all the traffic onto the tiny road running through our village, shutting Junction 27 of the M5 simultaneously.
Somerset highways dept is plainly run by knuckle draggers.

Re: How's your weather?
A hot week followed by a very early ride at dawn on Saturday when the weather changed to fog followed by rain, fog again then thunder and lightning then torrential rain, all before the end of the 30 mile loop in Penwith.
Great fun was had by all.

Re: How's your weather?
On Monday near Audlem in Cheshire it was 30°C wall to wall sunshine -- at home in NI it was 15°C and torrential rain. Some difference for not that many miles apart.
Near Middlewich today and still absolutely beautiful here. Blue skies and a moderate breeze which is just perfect. At home still raining and 13°C fer fluffs sake!

Re: How's your weather?
In this village we have a cluster of wood surrounded pools. Most of the land here is productive arable fields, intensively farmed. These ponds have greylags, mallards and moorhens, and much less obvious wildlife. I visit every day, but they are now empty of water again, and the wildfowl are missing. We had a very light shower today, but it will take much more rain to fill them.
At the other end of the village is another pond. It is still full and I am told that it has a clay bottom, rather than silt, so does not dry. The birds have not gone there.

It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Re: How's your weather?
25 mile ride back from the gym yesterday. "Light showers", were non-stop torrential, for 19 miles (Nb. Had delayed departure for 10 minutes, as it was torrential. Then it stopped, for initial 3 miles.............)
Then had stretch's of road which don't have streams, under 1' of water. Cars were all stopped (Nb. walked the verge, it was under water but only 3 inches). Large sections of road, on flat land, under 3-4" over 5 mile section (Nb. Was necessary to walk sections, risk of bike going over, too high)
Field of a couple hundred sheep/weaned lambs, the the animals were in an absolute panic, the sheep noise levels were unreal - sheep are obviously stressed when passing the auction mart several miles up the road, crammed into HGV's for miles. These sheep in an open field, normally indifferent to a passing cyclist, were running to me for help ?
Emergency services were out in number, Asda delivery van, 2-3 agricultural HGV's pulled on the only 4 mile section of A Road, roads all empty. 12-14 mile section, 1 Royal Mail van doing walking pace, on dead straight, empty road, aside from myself and a tractor, roads were empty after initial 5-6 miles. Don't know if the hi speed trains were affected, didn't see any running over a full 13-14 miles running alongside my route.
Off bike today, 15yr old Ortlieb panniers stayed dry, had to wring excess water out of clothing & boots a few times during ride. Definite flooding will be around today, so off the bike (Nb. So wet weather........tractors and bicycles get through)

We're on holiday in Cheshire not far from Wales and the sun has been splitting the stones all week.

Re: How's your weather?
A late evening toddle around.
Moon peeping through cloud at times.
Nightjar about.
The feel of the high humidity made me wonder if there might be a Glowworm about.
Just as I got back to the house, a tiny bright light in the grass.
Always a wonder.
Hope the Nightjar doesn't eat it!!

From my sketchy knowledge of Haiku I'd say that was a pretty damn good try!PDQ Mobile wrote: 5 Jul 2025, 11:10pm A late evening toddle around.
