Listed R4 programme disappears.

Post by Mike Sales »

I was looking forward to How Did We Get Here. Tracing the history between Israel and Palestine which was listed in my paper.
Imagine my disappointment when I turn on to find a programme on Paul Simon's Graceland.
A search turned up no explanation.
Is the subject too hot?
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Too hot? I doubt it - it's not like R4 doesn't cover the Palestine situation!

I'll have a look on their "sounds" page ...

(I think I heard the Graceland prog the first time round - it's about the controversy of him allegedly profiting from the native musicians. Quite a good listen IMO!)

The BBC does have a history of problems with the subject.

It looks like they have tweaked the schedules. The prog exists ... but you can't play it:
Episode 1
How Did We Get Here?Israel and the Palestinians Episode 1 of 6
Jonny Dymond and guests trace the contested history that’s shaped the current conflict.
Release date:24 September 2025
28 minutes

My guess is that following the Gov's announcement, they tweaked things - this includes making Palestine the subject of tonight's Moral Maze:

Is recognising the state of Palestine a moral duty?

It has happened again!
Radio 4 listed programme The Split. Jewish journalist David Baker talks to fellow British Jews about Gaza and Israel's government. has been replaced by a repeat. Listed for transmission 13:30 today.
I can remember a TV programme by David Schama on Israel/Palestine history disappearing.
I would like to be informed of diverse views on this important question.

I noticed that The Split was listed to be repeated tomorrow, but has now been replaced by the same repeated programme.
