Blimey. The things people do to themselves. I didn't even know it was a thing, though then again, I'm not in the least interested in sport.

About time!
Carbon monoxide is a poison that binds to haemoglobin with around 210x the affinity of oxygen. It causes cellular hypoxaemia which if severe leads to organ damage and death. In lesser amounts the CO poisoning stimulates erythropoietin production leading to an increase in functional red cell mass once the CO is cleared from the red cells. This in effect is akin to the EPO doping rife in the 90s. It's just another way of using a poison to cheat in competitive cycling. Get the dose wrong and it's dangerous too. Totally idiotic and unethical.

Yes.
And IMO the diagnostic use should be banned too.

How does allowing it benefit the sport?? If this technique ever goes wrong, there will be blood on the UCI's hands (as well as the teams involved).

What does this mean?
Maybe Valbrona has found a novel hypoxic manoeuvre to stimulate natural erythropoietin production with them?... break Kitkat into 2 fingers, insert one up each nostril, close mouth...

Any ban does raise some ethical questions I think. It assumes (which I loath) the idea that anyone is responsible to another peoples health. It also seems somewhat arbitrary. Many things are allowed which are not natural. Vegetarianism for example. Now, I am not knocking that. Personal choice but where does one draw the line?
Anything is only cheating if the rules prohibit it, other wise it's a matter of judgement.
Personally I would ban lots of things in racing, starting with radios .

As long as as you’re not suggesting banning its diagnostic use in the chest and lung function departments in hospitals.

No organisation can be responsible for not banning something unless organisations like the WHO sate that it lethal. If it is legal why not permit it?
Levels the playing field? Maybe ban altitude training?

That's not something that WADA (currently) have any power over.
