If the weather is bad, I will often drive to the local leisure centre for a swim instead of doing outdoor activities. Not 100% safe as there is a chance of verrucas.mjr wrote: 10 Oct 2025, 11:04amIf it's not safe to ride, it ain't gonna be safe to go out for a swim, unless you have a home swimming pool.deeferdonk wrote: 6 Oct 2025, 9:59am In fact if you sack off the ride and do an alternate varied exercise every so often (maybe go for a swim) it might actually be more beneficial for your life expectancy (citation needed!).

I've cut down on the chances of verrucas by insisting that those family members to whom I do lend my car to, wear shoes whilst driving it.deeferdonk wrote: 10 Oct 2025, 2:05pmIf the weather is bad, I will often drive to the local leisure centre for a swim instead of doing outdoor activities. Do post a link when it lands.
Re: Wind strength
It seems to me that the wind speed doesn’t tell the whole story.
It may be an illusion but I believe I have experienced fast air movement in the form of gusts of wind that appear to have similar speed to each other but vastly different force.
Is this due to the volume or mass of the air behind (or within) the gust or is the perceived similar speed an error of judgement?

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.
Re: Wind strength
When I learnt to sail, I was told that the force exerted on a sail increased with the square of the wind speed. A small increase in gust speed adds a much bigger lateral force.peetee wrote: 12 Oct 2025, 9:40pm It seems to me that the wind speed doesn’t tell the whole story.

How are you perceiving the wind speed?peetee wrote: 12 Oct 2025, 9:40pm It seems to me that the wind speed doesn’t tell the whole story.
