What's going on with this tapered CF fork?

Thanks, nice to have a helpful member in Germany. :) I'd seen that Acros were supplying headsets to Cube (and many others) but this particular bike isn't listed. You'd think Cube might have the specs somewhere but even their dealers don't have the details. Cube don't even specify what the fork offset is. Odd. Never mind, it's all getting a bit academic at this point as I'm quickly going off the idea of buying the bike.

it is very probably nothing to do with this if it is indeed a paint masking fault as I suspect.

FWIW, I queried the shop (All Terrain in Saltaire) about it, and here's what they replied:

(T)he mark where the bearing sits is just a quirk of the way it has been manufactured. Quite often that area will be sanded back a fraction during the manufacturing process in order to be sure the bearing sits parallel. I think all you are seeing there is the edge of a carbon weave and signs of resin on the join which is what bonds all the individual sheets of carbon together.

All Terrain is a reputable and well-established bike shop and an authorised Cube dealer. I bought my Orange MTB from them many years ago. :D

that's all well and good but he may just as well have said 'I am half blind and furthermore I do not know my a** from my elbow' so far as I am concerned.
