Alpkit table?
Re: Alpkit table?
I've seen this https://ebay.us/m/TGoobw which I think is a copy of the Japanese Soto table for about half the price.
Two ( edit Three ) reasons it appeals over the Alpkit is
1. It's slightly bigger but not too big ( I think )
( there's some confusion here as some other versions of the Alpkit seem to be a similar size to this Soto knock off )
2. All the jaggey bits fold in out of the way
3. It's very easy ( apparently ) to fold out / in.
One ( two maybe ) down side/s but haven't seen it yet so don't really know.
1. Construction might be a little more complex by that I mean the folding mechanism could jam if bent.
2. Slightly heavier but I'd take that for the upsides.
Anyone have a Soto or copy version?

My Trangia pre-dates non-stick!Bmblbzzz wrote: 10 Jan 2026, 3:48pmDoesn't that tend to blunt the knife (if the pan is uncoated aluminium) or destroy the Teflon (if it's non-stick)?pjclinch wrote: 10 Jan 2026, 9:29am
Tend to use the Trangia frying pan as a chopping board, the rim is high enough to keep stuff from wandering while low enough not to get in the way.
It doesn't seem to have harmed my knife (would usually be my Swiss Army Knife), certainly not to the point it can't easily be re-sharpened (been a few years since I've done that, might be worth digging out the stone)

This is the Soto style table made in wood which let's you see how the Soto table works. Well worth the watch. Brucey will love it.

This is an origami version made in wood -- just beautiful. I'd buy one just to sit and look at. Would stain it to try to highlight the different cuts of wood.

Well -- that's the Soto knock off version on it's way but I also bought the Robins Wilderness mini camping table which is very similar to the Alpkit one Sweep bought ( only I'm lead to believe it's 36mm long x 25mm wide -- I think the Alpkit is only 30mm long x 21mm wide -- not sure cos there maybe different sizes available ) .
When I get them I can compare the two then when Sweep gets around to getting the Alpkit out we can compare it with the Robins.

To clarify cowsham, have had the alpkit out/tinkered with etc. Just not out on a camping trip yet.

I was going to ask you to measure the length and width of it, but it'll do sometime when you get time no rush.

I assume you meant cm rather than mm?Cowsham wrote: 10 Jan 2026, 11:57pm Well -- that's the Soto knock off version on it's way but I also bought the Robins Wilderness mini camping table which is very similar to the Alpkit one Sweep bought ( only I'm lead to believe it's 36mm long x 25mm wide -- I think the Alpkit is only 30mm long x 21mm wide -- not sure cos there maybe different sizes available ) .

I very much doubt food safe or even basically hygienic. And frankly a bonkers "hack". A plate is far more compact.Morzedec wrote: 11 Jan 2026, 1:57pm Sweep - eating off a frisbee: it's a good shape, things don't fall off (as long as you have it upside down!)
