Partial knee replacement

Post by mattsccm »

A week from now the anaesthetics will be wearing off from my partial knee replacement. Anyone had this done and if so how long before they were pedalling again. Got Zwift and the smart trainer and ebike. I suspect my time trialing season is screwed but lets have some optimism please.

I do not know how to put links to pages to get straight there but I had a full replacement in August
If you search this
KNEE REPLACEMENT AND PHYSIO

I hope it goes well for you and that the regular exercise afforded by cycling will be beneficial :D
I had my first-ever surgery last year and although I was slightly anxious, my chums who work in medicine reminded me of the colossal numbers of 'operations' that go on every day and it was of course, all over in a trice! Afterwards, I only shouted at my physio once... I guess they're used to it

Well, 48 hours later and it bloody well hurts. The pain blocker/numb-er has worn off so relying on codeine. Came out of hospital with a good 90 degree bend and also a straight leg. Not as easy now but it will get there. Hospital physio told me to get on the trainer ASAP if the knee will bend enough.

Did they offer the option of discussing progress with them? (That's quite common nowadays and many patients find it helpful.)

I hope that pain disappears as soon as possible.

Yeah but a fellow club member is a well qualified coach etc and has the benefit of having had a much bigger knee op than me a couple of years ago. She is now competing at age group triathlons and winning. 50+ I think.

10 days in and I am just awaiting the staple removal on Tuesday. Pedalling will hopefully be pain free (ish) as the hospital physio said that could try if I was happy. Walking over a mile is a bit achy but I can do that without sticks.
Methinks I got away lightly although the surgeon reckoned that I was somewhat fitter , and younger at 62 than virtually all his patients. Sadly , in my opinion, both him and his staff were somewhat amazed I was happily doing 100+ mile weeks up to the op. I pointed out that the weather was dire hence the low number. What a shame that societies expectations are so low nowadays.
Anyway, you may differ but if you need the work done and can, do it.
