I once had a tour around a large vehicle repair centre .When talking of colour matching they said they held 121 shades of white.

The paint I'm after is Tractol enamel and comes out at 16.50 + VAT for a litre. That's probably enough to paint a dozen bikes! I'll find out how accurate the colour match is when I receive the paint
Paint received today. I opened the tin and carefully stirred the paint. I put a little of the new paint on the old paint and was a bit concerned it looked a bit lighter. My Wife agreed, but after leaving for a while, it turned out to be a perfect match :D .

This reminded me of when we had a Fiat car and asked the dealer for a 'touch -up paint. It arrived the next week, and looked very green (the car was blue). The guy in the dealership agreed. The next week, the second one arrived and looked the same. He called head office, and they suggested trying it. He painted some onto a steel washer and lo and behold, after about 40 seconds it went from green to blue........ It was just like a magic trick  We were all astonished - it was a perfect match once it dried.

That's the supplier I mentioned (without a link :( ) in a note above. Good paint (but 1L minimum). After receiving some paint today I can also recommend Smith & Allan in Darlington (also 1L minimum). There is still the issue of identifying the colour.

That's where the place I mentioned is good. Little touch-up pots, with a brush in the lid. I'd imagine there are plenty of places like this?

a lot less than there used to be, I think. I was very disappointed indeed to find that a local car spares shop had just binned ~30000 colour swatches. I would have described it as 'an invaluable resource'.

Shame - I'm surprised. My local town is only 27,000 bods - maybe we're very lucky to have such a paint place?

Thanks for all the interest, very enlightening.
I've just touched up the rough bits with the lighter stuff now, doesn't look bad from 6ft away. Thing is I would be lucky to get £200 for it and although I love the look of the frame and the comfort and load carrying, what do you do with it?
Shot blast and respray? not when you can pick up quality second hand alternatives for £500 or less.
Went out on it today, 1st time for 6months at least, sweet as a nut.
