And now even refused in Scotland by elected reps. Hospice sector ever closer to collapse and, apparently , folk dying in hospital corridors without even pain relief. I can only hope that the sadistic "no" voters also die in their own faeces whimpering in pain. But they won't, they're rich.

I'm not scared of dying, but the pain and degradation and total lack of dignity that is on the near horizon is a different matter.

That's what I'd want too, but that's not what's on offer, is it. The ones in control will be doctors, judges, lawyers, bureaucrats etc, not you, whilst the options you'll have control of will still be the same ones you already have: jump off Beachy Head etc.

Yes, a lot of right minded people acting on their highest moral principles yet without any true understanding of the consequences of their decisions.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

I understand that you feel strongly about this. But this language is malicious, offensive, obscene and defamatory. This forum should not be used in this way.

Actually what’s offensive is that anyone in authority should wish such an end on another human being which is just what the ‘no’ to change voters have done. To put it mildly you might choose to reflect on your own words and remember that others do have some awful ends and then also have some better respect for those of us who have lost loved ones to terminal illness in which they suffered greatly.

I will refrain from saying more, but if any comments are unacceptable they are surely yours and you might also be minded to consider that djnotts is terminally ill himself with a bleak future ahead of him. A bit of thoughtfulness and compassion goes a long way, so why not put that into action rather than critique others.

Like you, I was more displeased by our self-appointed prefect's attempt to bully and gag another with their haughty faux authority than I was by the wholly understandable cry of dismay from one who has a very pertinent reason for being very frustrated at the assisted-dying bill blocking tactics of the so-called Lords. In this day and age of a viewpoint free-for-all, disagreements are bound to be rife and often intense. Such disagreements and the various political sources of them won't be resolved by gagging, even if what's gagged is making one of the interlocutors very uncomfortable in the head.

It's often tempting to support a restriction on what's generally called "free speech" but personally I'd rather know what memes - nasty or nice - are swilling about the heads of folk since it's these memes that are likely to inform their actions, if not observed and challenged. So if we want to deal with the nastier meme-toxins it's best to know that they're present and what they are.

It is something of a trap ..... to fall into a mode that's a reflection of some nasty mode of conduct that one feels is toxic to oneself or others, though. I detest those who are cruel to animals and children but try very hard not to indulge in fantasies of torturing and abusing them in their turn, as they do to their own victims. It's so easy to slip into a pit of human abusing of others one dislikes whilst feeling all self-righteous. I recall the rather nasty punishment traditions of school prefects of a 1960s grammar school all too well, the little tinpots, even 60-odd years later.

It's difficult not to detest those faux aristocrats in The Lords, abusing their undeserved privileges. However, even if I was myself frustrated in my ambition not to suffer needlessly at life's end, I wouldn't wish the same on them, despite the emotional waft encouraging me to do so.
