Black Arm band weekend 9/10th may

Post by eileithyia »

Not sure if this is the right place, but the teashop is often quite quiet so need plenty of air time.

Some maybe aware a cyclist, Gareth Evans of the Army CU was killed on the A1 near St. Neots on Sunday morning whilst TT-ing.

Gathering momentum on other forums is a request for all cyclists, regardless of the what and where they are riding this weekend, to ride with a black arm band on over the weekend.
Suggestions include using gaffa tape, black ribbon, cut off arm warmer, or cut off top from a black sock.

I trust people will find it in their hearts to support this as a mark of respect not just for Gareth but for all cyclists who have been killed on our roads.

This is an excellent idea, I'll be wearing an armband. This horrible accident happened just a few miles from where I live, and knowing the road I can't imagine how the driver could've possibly not seen him. Reading the TT's forum on this is so sad;, they're such a close community and this has hit them hard - my thoughts go out to them as well as to everyone who knew Gareth.

I think black armbands this weekend is an great idea, in memory of anyone, but particularily cyclists, killed on the road. It's a sign of respect, and hopefully it might wake up a few drivers.
