Ember bus Thurso>Inverness

Post by Paulatic »

A new option to get back to Inverness are Ember electric buses.

https://www.ember.to/news/#new-thurso-t ... 2-jul-2025

You can book a bike on board.
We're happy to carry bikes, including e-bikes. You can reserve a bike space whilst booking your ticket. Folding bikes don't need to be booked.

We'll either carry your bike on board in the wheelchair space or underneath in the hold. Wheelchair users always take priority over bikes in the wheelchair space so you may need to move your bike if a wheelchair user boards at an intermediate stop. There should be plenty of space underneath but in case issues, the wheelchair user will still have priority and we'll work to find you an alternative solution. We can't guarantee your bike will be carried upright and it is carried at your own risk (but we've carried thousands of bikes without incident).

We'd appreciate if your bike is clean. If it's really dirty, please stick it in a bike bag. Folding bikes don't need to be booked, just turn up and get on. If you have a particularly large bike (e.g. a tandem), send us the dimensions before booking so we can check it will fit.

My missus and I are big fans of Ember, it's a great service, and they're opening up more routes all the time so if interested in branching off to the NW note they now go up to Fort William as well.

Initially the bike spaces were in the main cabin and were a bit short (getting a Moulton in just about works but anything much with bigger wheels it was a bit of a struggle), but they now seem to seem to be changing the layout and assuming bikes go in the luggage space (which they do, so not really a problem).

And being able to book bikes on is very handy.

Pete.

This is a brilliant development, it'll make getting back...and getting there...a lot easier.
