Lovely bike -- well done on that restoration.Hemipode wrote: 29 Jul 2024, 12:11pm Resurrecting an old thread, I've just finished a renovation on an Overbury's Connoisseur.
I used all period parts, the frame was resprayed by Argos Racing Cycles of Bristol and they did a fantastic job of it.
There certainly weren't any tracking issues as with a previous poster, it's a lovely ride. 1000016220.jpg1000016221.jpg1000016222.jpg1000016224.jpg

Me too!
1987 Connoisseur, originally dark red with 3x6 friction Shimano and full touring gear. Now silver with 2x11 Campagnolo, tubeless tyres, mini-vees, no racks, and about 4Kg lighter (half that the tyres).
Could do with another respray, TBH.

oddly enough 'pioneer' was the name given to one of the MTBs Overburys did. I own one of them.mumbojumbo wrote: 12 Oct 2022, 7:34pm These are rare but good-the first uk firm to make a decent MTB. True pioneers.

Re: overburys touring bikes
I've just obtained an Overbury's frameset, it's an Andy Powell build with AP serial number.
Had to grab it even though it's too small (swapped it for a kids bike) but it was a terrible mess component wise.
So not really planned.
But I have all the parts to make it a nice tourer...audax or whatever it was built for bike. The dilemma is do I put the bits I've been hanging onto to make it complete or not?
I've got for a build like this - wheels, Module E on Campagnolo or MA2 on Golden Arrow. Stronglight 80 triple, rare old Suntour Cyclone Mk2 GT derailleur, Weinmann Carrera brakes, Cinelli bars and stem, F&R racks, Esge? mudguards. Plus all the other parts

Yes, build it with whatever kit is hanging around, ride it and see if you like it enough to want to find other bits for it……specially if it’s a tad small (or big!)

Re: overburys touring bikes
Indeed.
I made the decision to build it up yesterday. It's a 52c-c and 52c-t whilst I'm 54cm square. But a Nitto Tallux stem I had will solve some size issues.
I also don't have a run around bike, or one I'd ever dare to lock up...and this is what it will be. So mocked up and will be fine.
