Trike storage advice (DIY)

Post by belgiangoth »

KM2 is a very bad man and has reminded me that I would actually love to have a windcheetah.
I have an Asgard bike store in the front garden which has the floorplan space for my Catrike, but not enough space for two trikes side by side.

I was mulling the idea of storing one bike over the other, the Catrike is all in about the height of a 700C tyre, so that might work. It has just occurred to me that maybe I could store them side on & head to tail.

The "it would fit but be less convenient" option is to remove the (theoretical) Windcheetah seat as then the frame would definately store vertically. how much faff is that?

What other things should I consider (a second bike store is not an option)?

Would anyone be able to share the width, length, height off ground of a windcheetah (and possibly width of the seat, though I think I could approx that).

Rambling thoughts welcome

I’ll measure mine when it’s next out.

It used to be stored above a car. Vertical lift on pulleys and then run in lengthwise on wire rigging.

Thanks!

(I should probably add that my additional constraints feature no side/rear access to the property and no garage - terraced house in Brum).

I hoick mine in and out the front door, have to turn it on it's side, then jer- jer- jiggle it through.
It lives in the hallway, I have a large bicycle garage( said hallway, 15ft longx 9ft)
I am single ,do it isn't a problem, apart from hoicking it in, I do wish I had a wider street door tho '. Standard width, but could and would make it wider.

Front hall already has my commuter and wife's e bike.
I used to haul the cat through the house, but it's enough of a faff* to put me off riding it when I get the chance - hence the front storage.

* It's not the hoiking it through the house that's the problem, it's the bike Jenga to clear the hall, but (chicken, grain, fox style) not end up with a trike and an e bike unsupervised in fron of the house.

Seems you've a wife that thinks right!
I do have 2 bikes in the front room & sometimes a Peer Gynt,as well in the hall, plus all the he camping stuff.
Seems normal domestic people don't think right.
I sympathise with the bike jengam

There was a brief discussion about 7 years ago RE buying a cargo e-bike for the school run and a couple weeks later the bike arrived (I wasn't going to pass that up). It has really been good for all involved, daughter's school run is a bullshit traffic jam, or a quick cycle (UPHILL) on parallel car-free roads.
Then commute to work along the Birmingham car-free blue route (again, instead of a horrible traffic jam).

And there's probably been a huge saving on fuel.

And the e-bike is probably worth more now than when we bought it.

And the cycling has probably been good for my wife's health.

When my wife and I first got together, I insisted that there was no way my beloved Moulton AM was going to be stored in the garage, and it took up residence in the dining room. That understanding was a clear sign of compatibility, and over 30 years later we are still together :D
