Cannot reply with quote

Post by NickJP »

I can create a new thread (such as this) without problem, and in existing threads I can click on the "Post Reply" button at the top or bottom of each page and create a reply without any problem. However, if I click on the reply with quote button (the double quote button at the right-hand side of each message in a thread), I get a response with the window title "403 forbidden" and the window contains just the text "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access this resource."

I tested with different threads in different forums, and the same problem with all. I've only come across this problem recently, I used to be able to reply with quote successfully. FWIW, I'm running Firefox browser on Windows, but I also tried with the Edge browser (saw the same problem), and from my laptop, which is running Linux rather than Windows, and the same problem there, so it would seem to me that the problem is at the server end and not the PC end.

Any suggestions?

Hopefully admin will be able to advise/fix it, but in the meantime have you tried using the quote button both to create a new reply and also after you have created a blank new reply (by scrolling down to a previous post and clicking on the quote button)?

Yes, that works, If I first create a blank reply by clicking the "Post Reply" at page bottom or top, and then click the quote button on the message I want to quote, that inserts the quoted message in the previously blank reply. However, that's a workaround for a problem that previously didn't exist, as in the past I could just click the quote button on any thread message to directly start a quoted reply.

The "Quote" button was disabled for a while, except for UK IP addresses, to reduce server load from "AI" robots trying to quote every single post on the Forum.

I've removed that limitation now, so the "quote" button should work again for you now.

Just for information, where are you in the world?

That explains the block - next time I'll include more English-speaking nations in the whitelist!

Unable to use quotes or look up members.

I was locked out of the forum and helpful mods/admin got it solved.
Since then I cannot quote a post. The screen shows the message: Forbidden.
Can anyone help please?

I have merged your thread into one started by NickJP, because it is almost certainly the same issue. As mentioned upthread, there is a work around for quoting posts.

I presume admin has had to reinstate some of the server level blocks because of renewed scraping by bots gathering data for AI models. I suggest you provide your location country so that admin can add it to the whitelist (assuming you are not in a country which is a significant source of bots).
