And the Euro is only one currency.
Against the Swiss Franc, for example, the Pound has more than halved in value since 2008.
That's not a fair example as the Swiss Franc which was pegged to the euro broke that link in 2015 and resulted in a 30% boost to its value against all major currency's overnight.
It is what it is.
An example of the weakened Pound
And the pound has lost MORE than half it's value against the Sfr since 2008 - just a simple fact.

If you search for "Pound Value after Brexit" you will get results that say " Pound has lost 15% against the Euro and 20% against the Dollar".

From what I read there is no doubt that leaving the single market etc has had a significant negative effect on the UK economy.

And as for travelling costs.....
It's all about the quantitive easing done by Gordon Brown. That lit the fuse of an inflation time bomb that we now only see since money became in demand again ie for loans to buy houses. He should've left the market alone and let it find it's real level at that time instead of interfering with it.

The Swiss Franc is a very strong currency, the Euro hasnt kept pace with it either. The sclerotic Euro zone will probably fall behind further in future. When we get rid of this bumbling government and create growth instead of stifling it that will help.

But the stronger pound that you insisted in 2016/17 would materialise after it's collapse has not done so?

Switz is a member of the Schengen free movement area (and other agreements with EU) and their economy benefits from that, though I would concede it's not all a bed of roses.
Additionally it should be (unnecessarily) said that we had Tory Govts from 2010 until 22.

Not sure if you are correct about that.
A quick search reveals that by far and away most Quantitive Easing was done by Tory Govts.

This is why Alexi Sayle said " No one party can lie cheat and steal and expect to remain in power. This is why we have two."

I fear we are about to have three. They're all useless - Gordon is a moron and hadn't a clue what he was doing, the Tory school boys just followed what that big galoof did.

For those that didn't notice...
This year was the first year that more people died than were being born in the uk
..its too early yet to see if this is a blip, but if this demographic continues, it may mean the end of the consumer society...

I hadn't seen that, but was only wondering about those figures when I saw that the net migration figures were due out today.
UK net migration drops to 171,000 in 2025, lowest since 2012 excluding pandemic - follow live - BBC News

With more older people dying than being born this shifts the demographic towards a younger population.
Did anyone here about the crisis in retirement dwellings mentioned on BBC breakfast this morning. Falling numbers of retirees seaking this style of living has resulted in an oversupply and a collapse in resale values accompanied by soaring leasehold charges. This points to a shrinking pool of retirees. Rachel Reeves is licking her lips at the shrinking pension payments. :(

A lifelong pal has just moved into one of these places in Exeter. They charge £200 per week despite the fact he has bought it. Became a available last November 7 sold 39 available. On top of that theres council tax, heating, internet, and various other charges. Theres a restaurant on site and private parking. Not for me methinks currently sitting by our pond watching the ducks, fish, squirrels, snd listening to the birds with a glass of white..

Mrs Rjb has the Merlin app on her phone. Whilst out on our tandem she can hear the birds in the locality. We regularly hear reed warblers but have yet to see them hiding in the vegetation. Heard a few cuckoos too.

Charges for those retirement flats are about £10k per year. On the beeb this morning one couple had inherited one but we're unable to sell it as it failed to make the £10k reserve at auction. Neither could they move in as they weren't old enough. So now stuck with a worthless flat costing them £10k every year.
