We’ve got a problem locally with things becoming superficially ripe, but being hard and dry. It happened with my early plums, the later plums in the community orchard are doing the same, apples look ripe a month early, but are still like stone, and all the trees locally are dropping crop when they only usually do that briefly in June, blackcurrant simply didnt, and blackberries are again ripe a month early, but dry and sour. If commercial growers have got the same, it doesnt bode well.Good things - loads of ripe figs, thornless blackberrys, tomatoes, peaches from a neighbour....

Currently cycling in God’s own Country soaking up the warmth. Had my top off
Hard to believe the heating was on at home before coming down.
Lambs look poor down here compared to Scotland. Not surprising as there’s only brown stalks to eat here.

Same here.. tayberrys and loganberrys were rubbish and with the blackberrys you have to leave them until they are very soft before picking. Apples sound the same. Pears were a wipeout...We’ve got a problem locally with things becoming superficially ripe, but being hard and dry

Along the farm tracks we normally have an abundance of blackberries but not this year. Just shrivelled remains.
I will miss these as I love blackberry and apple crumble.
Not missed are the nettles, I've not been stung this year.
Rather bleak outlook for the wildlife I fear.

Breaking news: I got soaked by rain while out on a ride today!
OK, the rain lasted at most twenty minutes, and ten minutes after you’d not even have known it had rained, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The depth and breadth of some of the cracks where the ground has dried out are pretty spectacular. On some bridleways you have to be really careful not to get your wheels in them because you’d certainly damage bike and self.

Still no sign of rain on the Somerset Levels. My ornamental passion flower plant is producing lots of passion fruit. I've eaten a few already. Yum yum
Lots of blackberries ripening but you have to choose wild plants that have their roots near a water source. River banks are a good source.
