emergency puncture repair

hi all,
just wondered what others out there use in an emergency say used up all your patches innertubes etc
what else could you use eg gum,

About five years ago I was up in the orkneys and got a pinch puncture. No shops around had any puncture kits.

I was riding 27" wheels with 1 1/4" tyres and was able to tie an overhand knot in the inntertube.

It worked fine with a slight bump........bump.............bump........

Pine/tree sap might work but would need to harden first. I also read that somewhere that people used to stuff grass into their tyres as a get you home faster than walking fix.

This really dosn't work and is a nightmare to clean up. It might be possible to try and use properly dried hay/ straw but grass is a no no.

I tried grass, well, road side vegitation anyway. Works for a bit before you end up with a green smoothie being splattered over everything.

It got me home off the moors one night when 2 spare inner tubes turned out to have faulty valves. The mess was hideous though!

i broke a presta valve once - ripped the rubber a the base - impossible to fit a patch

applied loads of glue with some tight rubber bands wrapped around it

did me well for a good couple of days

Ordinary insulation tape can work well when wrapped around the tube and stuck to itself. It will usually stretch enough to cope with re-inflation.
