How do I deleat PM notifications

When I log on to this site, I get a number in a red dot beside the 'Private messages' (TR beside my user name)
As I read the messages the number reduces until only the number 1 remains.
How do I get rid of that last notification ?
It seems to linger for weeks no matter how many times I read the message!
I tire of finding the same old message time and time again.

There should be one notification highlighted in the list as still "unread" if there is a "1" indicator.

You could try scrolling to the bottom of the notifications list to see it?

Or click on "See All" to show all your notifications. Then you can click on "Mark all notifications read" to clear all the unread flags..
