Obree going for hour record again

Post by grw »

Rather large chain ring on his bike which is another self build with reynolds 653 tubing! Good luck to him!

Good luck to him !

A real character - not many of those left and one of the nicest, most humble guys you could meet.

He rode in our small local cycling club's 25 TT a few years back - as you'd expect he won !

All the best.

Dave.

Brilliant!
I will be following the news with interest. I have a copy of Flying Scotsman too.

As an aside, looking at his new bike, I see it has no brakes. That's fine because it's a track bike.
So he's breaking the law by using in on the roads, as seen in the picture?

Only if it was a public road. Do you know that?

We could have a sweep on what wheeze the UCI will use if he breaks the record:

Ban on veterans holding the record.
Ban on threadless stems.
Ban on blue bikes.
Ban on bikes the rider may have built for themselves.
Ban on anybody who can ride a bike fast.
Ban on anybody called Obree*

* The bookies' favourite.

No I don't, but it looks like a seaside promenade to me.
Ardrossan?
Saltcoats?
Largs?

Mind you, I hold my hat off to anyone that can pull a 67/13!!
138" for goodness sake!

Ban on bikes the rider may have built for themselves.

I'm betting on that one: prompted by the bike companies who get plenty of advertising from when their bikes are used for high profile events, and using the excuse that all bikes must be available to the general public otherwise it makes racing look elitist

Saltcoats I think. A local youth probably nicked the brakes.

After reading this thread I came across 'The Flying Scotsman' DVD in Morrissons for just £3.99. Watched it last night. What a cracking film :D
Good luck to him.
