Cycling Trousers advice for novice

I dislike padding of any kind (guess Im just lucky) and tend to use hiking/walking trousers such as Kiwi Craghoppers.

I find myseld drawn to the Ground Effect ones in an earlier post though................

As said earlier, Hummvee's are great, I've got a pair of shorts, two pairs of 3/4's and a pair of trousers, all Hummvee's. They are great for my occasional jaunts on the mountain bike and make good 'utility legwear' when cycling in general. Because they just look like casual trousers you can get away with wearing them without looking daft, if that bothers you of course.

Bear in mind most shops stock the 'trouser only' variant, so you wont get the padded shorts with them. They are designed to be used with Enduras 'ClickFast' shorts (they have press studs at the top that 'click' into the trousers) but they can be used with any padded shorts.

I've got 3 pairs of Craghoppers - in fact, I don't own any other trousers (apart from cycling specific ones). They're very comfortable for everyday wear and certainly are plenty loose enough around the legs. I wear them when I'm riding the folder around town and they'd be fine for a short commute, but I wouldn't wear them on a long ride.

I've had quite a bit from Ground Effect in NZ and would recommend them.
They have a new product that I'm going to get ( http://www.groundeffect.co.nz/product-d ... EL-LON.htm ) when i get my act together !!
Look like they may be just what you need.

re bike trousers + road rash
what has worked for me:
2 layers of thin longs - which when I hit the ground slide against each other before
tearing open and ripping a chunk of flesh out.
Bonus use - brambles, nettles - never found any materials to work on rose thorns or rain....
