I received the following e-mail from Cycle Woking - They are running a taster session to gauge the demand in the area for maintenance classes:
"Gear-up for bike maintenance"
Cyclists shouldn’t let a simple puncture put the breaks on their biking! With a little bicycle maintenance know-how, they can save themselves cash by keeping their bike in good working order.
So, Cycle Woking has teamed up with mechanics from Woking Cycle Stations - a community project that services and fixes dumped or donated bicycles – to offer Woking residents a FREE bike surgery drop-in session and maintenance taster lessons on Saturday 23 January 2010 in Peacock Walk, Woking Town Centre, from 11am to 3pm.
Andrew Hargreaves, Community Development Officer at Woking Cycle Stations, said: “It can be easy to leave your bike sitting in a shed for months on end if it has a puncture, simply because you don’t know how to fix it. But with a few basic skills, you can keep your bike in good working order and even prevent problems occurring. Our team of experienced mechanics will be on hand to show Woking residents a few simple skills that will help to keep them on the road.”
Woking Cycle Stations offers cycle training and runs a bicycle recycling scheme, in which the team of mechanics and local young people based at Lakeview repair and recondition dumped or donated bicycles. The project aims to make cycling more accessible for all and equip young people with the skills they need to maintain their bikes. If Woking residents have an old bike that they would like to donate to the scheme, they should call 01483 750403.
To guarantee a place at the maintenance event or to find out more information residents should contact Ellie Guttridge, Cycle Woking Communications Officer, at ellie.guttridge@woking.gov.uk or call 01483 743021.
