Yes, another section for 'Bikes Only' ...... bikes in bondage! A whole section devoted to bikes chained to fences, railings, bus shelters, lamp posts ... plus readers' favourite cycle locks!

I have an ancient Peugeot too, maybe I'll get the camera out sometime - I still prefer my Dolly (Specialized).

When I was little my father had a Hetchins, as well as some of his clubmates, I thought all "normal" bikes had bent stays.

No - havent any soul - - got some nice place though :lol:

Just out of interest why are the stays bent ?
they would be harder to make and surely they wouldnt be as stiff?

Jac,
please see http://www.hetchins.org/100.htm for info re Hetchins frames. There were three reasons behind the curly stays:
a. you're right, the rear triangle would be less rigid so would give a slightly sprung ride that was said to be kinder to the frame and the rider;
b. there were very strict rules about advertising in racing before WW2, even to the extent that the maker's name couldn't be shown on the frame. Hetchins' frames were immediately identifiable and were frequently ridden by the star riders so there were a lot of kudos by association in having a curly frame.
c. if that's your taste, they look fantastic.

I'm not a Hetchins expert or owner, but I do live in hopes. New curly stayed frames are available from David Miller at
Hetchinscycles@aol.com and from Bob Jackson in Leeds.
