CTC membership numbers

Post by Anfield Mike »

I know we're experiencing a boomtime in CTC membership numbers, but does anyone have yearly figures for the past few years to hand?

Thanks in advance.

Twice I've joined this scam outfit - profiteering on a name no longer worthy of itself - only to let my membership lapse - not that anyone cared anyway.

Thinking of shelling out for the outrageous membership fee? - Don't. The organisations' a shambles, No interest in championing the poor or the ordinary bloke on his bike.

But just where's all that membership money going eh? Please can I have a job up there too?

But please feel free to take advantage of this excellent forum supported by CTC.

The forum naturally doesn't justify membership in itself, but I would suggest a more moderate criticism, unless this is your last posting of course..... A large number of us on here are presumably CTC members. I don't see myself as belonging to a "scam" organisation.

Happy cycling

Well, I've been impressed with the CTC throughout my 32 years of membership. Please don't butt into the thread with unrelated distractions.

Returning to the question asked - "does anyone have yearly membership figures for the past few years to hand?"

Apologies. First time I've ever been accused of butting in

Tasker butted in, not you David

My original question was "does anyone have yearly membership figures for the past few years to hand?"

The numbers are in the annual reports.

It takes a little time to extract them but here goes:-

Individual members as at
30 Sept 2009?: 62383 (figure is actually described as end of 2009)
30 Sept 2008 : 59804
30 Sept 2007 : 58496

If you need more use the search engine on the CTC homepage.

Thanks Gaz.

From the latest report.

In 2009, CTC surpassed the membership record that was set
way back in the ‘Golden Age’ of cycling in 1899, just after the
invention of the pneumatic tyre and the safety cycle and before
cars appeared on the country’s roads in any great number. At
the end of 2009, CTC had a total of 62,383 individual members,
exceeding the previous record number of members of 60,443
reached in 1899 and the previous peak of 53,574 members that
we saw in 1950.
