membership/I.D cards

Post by micah »

Hello there,
At a recent committee meeting of our group the subject of membership/I.D. cards came up. One or two of us wondered if it might be a useful thing to have when out on rides, whether in a group or on your own. The card would be slightly bigger than a credit card, with, say, the group or club name on it, CTC membership no, an I.C.E (in case of emergency) phone no(s) etc.
We wondered if perhaps any other groups or cycle clubs use, or have tried out any system of this nature, and would welcome
comments, views or suggestions on it. Thanks.
Yours, bashlik.

we just ask our riders to bring with them a small sheet of paper with next of kin, etc on it in case of emergencies. I think that we also might have issued a small card with what to do in case of heart attacks on it, after one of our members had one (thankfully he's OK now and back on bike)

In the past, we've not been so lucky, as one of our members died of a heart attack while out on a club ride.

However, we (and the CTC) consider the ride leader responsible for the day's ride and we have compiled a spreadsheet list of all members details, including names and contact numbers of Next of Kin, (our NOK list).
The ride leader brings it with him/her on the rides and ticks off who is present and also fills in details of any newcomers who arrived on the day. Usually, our membership secretary is out on the ride also and he carries a copy (just in case anything happens to the leader  ).

Dear fausto copy,
Thanks for forwarding your observations on this subject, they`re very welcome. My apologies for not replying sooner, the reason? (Si, who also replied, will be interested in this), whilst out with the family on Sun. 8th, but not on a bike ride, I had a heart attack, luckily I was able to to get to hospital and be treated and I`m back out out now. I don`t like to think what could have happened if I`d been on a club run, or meeting up with them for elevenses for instance, incidents like this seem to point
very strongly to having a NOK(next of kin) or ICE(in case of emergency) card/list on club runs.
