Lovely to see the Sunbeam getting some use Graham, Devon was too hilly for it and it spent twenty five years in dry storage. It did get taken on the Sunbeam centenary ride back to the Wolverhampton factory in the early nineteen eighties though. Couldn't have gone to a better home!

I hadn't realised you'd owned it for so long Must have been quite a wrench to see it go

It'll get plenty of use, within the limits I set on irreplaceable bikes. The odd weekend jaunt, V-CC runs and those "looks nice outside, think I'll have a couple of hours out on a bike" types of ride

It's a joy to ride and I can now see over some hedges that were previously blocking my view It's become joint favourite bike with the Clubman and BSA

Courtesy of Graham, I've lowered the gearing on Christine this evening by replacing the rear 20T with a 24T. Gives me a much more useable range on the rough stuff Once the Dorset style shower has passed over, I'll try it on the road instead of around the garden.

mike - i've been riding 48/24 since i built my black one. i've gone up a 1:6 (see page 1 of this thread) on it and it didn't break

I prefer to think of it as exposing defects in manufacture and design weaknesses I wonder when I'll get the 9-speed back from the farterland

Christine is now running 48/24 - a 24t sprocket was the easiest option and avoided looking for a smaller and less pretty chainring (I did see a 60t on ebay but I can't afford the chain - or the time to make a 30t sprocket )
