To be fair, just about anything with a carbon frame is overpriced nonsense aimed at people with more money than sense too. I can't blame Pashley for aiming for a slice of that pie, and I'm glad they've chosen to do so in their usual quirky way. That frame does look shoddy though.

i'm not convinced. infact, i reckon it's overpriced AND substandard..

I agree, I'm no great fan of modern retro-style Pashleys having ridden a Princess (although a much older gent's upright was rather a nice ride,) I was just commenting after a quick glance at the slender seatstay tubes; that was what I meant by fine, not the quality of the brazing which is clearly not great at all. But nice to see the pic of a proper lug without paint on - very attractive.

Carbon is a cheap material. The reason why CF frames have been expensive is that up until recently they were hand laid by craftsmen to get the characteristics the designers wanted out of the frame. Once manufacurers have learned how to pop them out of a mould on a production line it will become a cheap technology and nearly all bikes will be CF. It was the same with aluminium years ago. Alu frames were exotic and only seen on the top racing bikes, now all the cheap crap from China is alu and to be fair they seem fine from the point of view of the average buyer. Full carbon road bikes now start at £1000. Try getting a steel road bike of equivalent spec for less than that. So are steel framed bikes now overpriced nonsense aimed a people with more money than sense? That is what a lot of people would say about Pashleys when they can buy the equivalent (alu) Giant, Trek, for £300 or less. My mate was speechless (and I mean speechless!) when he learned I paid £600 for my (Condor) steel frame. He had just bought a Giant with 7 speed hub gears for £300!

i'd only have steel too. i've seen enough pictures on here of snapped forks, cracked bb's & etc. to realise that they're not going to last, and may fail with serious consequences to my boyish good looks

given the abuse both utility and best bikes get get - being bashed against a lampost, other bikes in the bike shed at home or work & etc. i imagine that the small top tube dent that my black one picked up on the way home from the pub one night, or the scatches on the seatpost from an overtightened lamp bracket would have spelled the end for that ambrosiaspa pictured up there.

If you are feeling cynical thats the whole point. This throwaway consumer society we are in is getting worse, despite, or even because of, the growth in recycling. They'll last a few years then people will buy another. If you are a bike manufacturer or retailer isnt that what its all about?

Some of the drivetrain components (of multi-geared dedangly bikes) only last a few months anyway so I actually think it's quite fitting that the frame is designed to self-destruct in a similar timeframe.

I know what you mean - my Raleigh carbon frame cost me £17, yes, I know, I know, bloomin' expensive - but I was attracted by that sticker:
