Snow report

Post by thirdcrank »

Last winter we had a snow report so members could report local conditions. It's been snowing here on and off all evening without really settling. I see there is now a covering of perhaps an inch but looking wet.

Not enough to fuss about but enough to prompt me to start a new thread for this winter.

Cool and dry down here this morning.

If you have snow Up North, you can keep it. We don't want it, we had enough of it last winter - and the winter before! In fact we were basically marooned in our bungalow.

I'm hoping that when it finally hits us in London this year, the fact that I am working in Central London, on a main road, as opposed to the suburbs, means that the road and pavements will be cleared to a higher standard (I work on one of the main roads out of Victoria station/coach station). Last year Kingston town centre was great, but about 1/2 a mile out the pavements were sheet ice and I ended up walking in the roads. Then we had the SouthWest trains 'snow timetable' which basically meant half as many trains - but then I think a lot of people just stayed at home so the trains that remained weren't too bad.

About an inch of wet snow in NW Glasgow and looks as if more will be falling shortly. Our road rarely sees gritters but I assume the main roads into town will be clear by now.

Aaahh Buxton  The only place where a touring West Indies cricket team has been snowed off. In June!
It's hail & sleet showers down in Chesterfield ATM, sunny periods in between.

Nothing at my level (450') beyond light sprinkling on cars but plenty on the moors it seems.

Still snowing but not much more than an inch at our level (300m). Now setting out on foot to get emergency rations.

No snow in the Gateshead/Central Newcastle part of Tyneside this morning, but some of the roads (at least those without regular car traffic) were covered in black ice at 8am - I can personally attest to this having slid 20 yards on my belly down one of them following an abrupt and unexpected separation from my bike!

Happily I'm uninjured, but my bike's a little bent...

I got hit with a hail/sleet shower yesterday morning about 10:40 next to where i live, South Shields.

Brisk westerly and hail. Horrible, i was going to turn round and go back home but then i had seen blue skies behind so i just "rode" it out!
