I thought this article in The Telegraph, could do with an airing here.

Re:The economics of cycling
She quotes cycling as 14 times more dangerous that driving. Surely cyclists should be compared to driver only (come off worse than passengers). And I have seen claims that this risk is equal.
eg from cyclehelmets.org "USA
0.26 cycling fatalities per million hours cycling, which is about half the risk for riding in a car.
Source: Failure Analysis Associates"
The DT also recently had a paragraph
on the increase in bike use/purchases and about half consisted of someone saying maybe cycling is dangerous and many wont be wearing helmets: they didnt bother suggesting that the cyclists could buy the Cyclecraft book and/or take some training etc.
NB I oppose helmet compulsion: I want to be able to legallly remove a helmet when too hot. NB I read that (Cricket I think)helmets have been shown to slow reactions due to heating

I wear a hat to keep cool or warm 80% of heat
being lost thru the scalp.
Also to say goodday to anybody passing.
Can I do that with a helmet?
