Crask Inn Lairg, Highlands or Altnaharra

Hi all

Just planning my route and wonder if anyone has stayed at the Crask Inn Lairg, Highlands if so what was it like....

Also thinking of the B&B at Altnaharra a bit further north the Crask Inn if any one has stayed there.....

Would appreciate your views...

The Crask Inn is quite unique and special in its isolation, 45 whiskies on the bar, basic generally but very hospitable. The ride from there to Tongue is one of the best you could want.

I stayed there about 10 years ago and have called there twice since. It is an old drovers inn with no mains electricity, you are provided with a torch for when the generator shuts down at 11pm. I agree they are very hospitable. The food is good and it is well worth having a night there.

We stayed there on our World Tour of Scotland in August 2009. It is an experience not to be missed. At least stop for a pint on the way past.

We had lunch at the Crask Inn on our Jogle, very nice, friendly place with lots of character. We also passed through Altnaharra, but there's not much there - no pub or shop that I could see.

Crask Inn is really popular with the lads in the scottish branch of my motorcycle club, I've been in and it's a cracking place. You can camp there from memory too

The ride from there to Tongue is one of the best you could want.

I'm sorry to disagree, but though I enjoyed the road to Tongue, turning right in Altnaharra and following the river is even better.

An experience... When I stayed there they were butchering a deer on the kitchen table with a hacksaw.... during dinner.

It's basic but probably also unique. One for the connoisseur.

When we had dinner there, the geny was playing up. The boss was serving dinner in between coaxing the geny back into life. I don't think hand cleaner had made it up there in 2009. Classic

I can recommend the B&B in Altnaharra. Stopped there when i did my Jogle last year. Lovely 3 course evening meal. Amazing price for what you get.

I can also recommend the B&B in Altnaharra - great meals, very friendly - prices are reasonable. The pub is a short walk away - but watch out for the midges. I'll be staying there again this summer.

We didn't stay at the Crask Inn or the B&B in Altnaharra, although we had a drink in the former and dinner at the Altnaharra Hotel and had a warm welcome from both.

One of the few things my brother and I agreed on during our LEJOG last summer was that the ride from Lairg up to Bettyhill via the Strathnaver was the best bit of the entire trip

Have had a snack in the Crask Inn. Brings new depth to the phrase "slow food"

Tongue is a cracking place to look at. You can stay in at least one hotel and the hostel.
