Post by barbelfisher »

Been looking for a really nice mountain bike and just bought a Saracen kili comp, seemed like a bargain in superb nick for £150. Just wondered if anyone has one?

they did several different models with the same name, all decent bikes IIRC. Which is yours? What do you plan to use it for?

Incidentally do you know why they named it as they did? (trivia test...)

cheers

Not sure of the name, but it is the Reynolds 853 version around mid nineties.

Sounds nice - there's quite a Saracen following on www.retrobike.co.uk

IIRC (and maybe I don't) Saracen sponsored Nick (yes him off the telly) and Dick Crane to 'ride' (more like carry) some Saracen MTBs up Kilimanjaro in the '80s. 1985? Since then they have had a 'Kili' model in the range. Nice bikes.

Yes, the Crane cousins (or was it brothers) took Saracens up Kilimanjaro in the 80s, they wrote a book about the trip :

Hi there !

I have a 1994 Saracen Kili Comp identical to this, which I have owned from new and ride on a daily basis
to keep my Merlin Malt 4 looking sparkling.

I think I might have some photos of this when new .. It came with period XT Groupset , Ritchey finishing kit
and tyres and had solid forks.

I still have the forks , most of the components have been replaced two or three times , however the bike is
still sound and an ideal restoration project for an enthusiast.

I am open to offers and am located in Adlington, Lancashire.

I can be contacted on 07761 399651 anytime .. I have just spotted something which takes my fancy !

Tim
