Garmin Edge 605

Post by binsted »

After 8 months of faultless running my PC will not recognise my Edge 605 so I cannot upload my rides. From a Google search it appears a not uncommon problem that can be rectified by a downloadable file e-mailed from Garmin but Garmin are not the quickest to respond.

Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and access to the solution.

The file you probably need is the usb driver file.

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download ... jsp?id=591

Download it to PC.
Put micro SD card in PC.
Copy.
Put micro SD card in Garmin and switch on.
Connect Garmin to PC.

Garmin should strobe all its drives for the usb driver file.

Good luck.

Forgot to mention I am using a Mac, instructions suggest this is for windows.

Have tried removing USB cable, also using a similar USB cable so proof the cable is OK

I'm on a Mac, though never (yet) had a problem with my 705 being recognised.

This problem comes up from time to time on the Garmin Forums. Have a look at:
https://forums.garmin.com/forum.php
and ask the question.

Good luck, and hopefully someone will come back to you.

Trawled through that Forum, unfortunately no replies to the question which has been asked several times, have bumped the thread so hopefully someone may help.

Will just have to be patient and hope Garmin Tech Desk gets back to me.

Just to update, after a very slow exchange of e-mails on Garmins side I phoned customer service, after explaining the problem they said it was a hardware problem and to send it back and they will replace it within 5 days.

Sometimes the phone is the quicker option...............

Hope you have better luck than I did, same problem with the 605, Garmin changed it and then changed it again, then on their advise I upgraded to a 705. Few weeks and it went the same way, eventually Wiggle gave me my money back. Problem is I can't find anything else to do the job, the iphone runs out of battery after a couple of hours. If anyone knows of another solution I'd love to hear it.

How about one of these...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-eTrex-Le ... 567&sr=8-6

rather brick like but in my experience, similarly bullet-proof. About half the price of a 705.

Decent set of AA batteries will last 2 full days without a charge. Free UK mapping possible.

Good recommendation but they are replaced by new models and so are available much cheaper. The new models - http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/50 ... -00970-10- are slightly sleeker and have much improved reception.Though not a cycle specific, get one of these http://www.expansys.com/garmin-oregon-b ... to=1701and install Velomap and you have a cycle specific navigation device.

I see that as a disadvantage. Good Li battery in my 705 and it charges each time I upload into my computer.

..... and yes, I take my computer on tour with me.
