Rose Bikes - Acera 9 Speed Derailler

Post by irc »

I just received a SHIMANO Acera rear derailleur RD-M390-SGS which cost £12.75 plus postage. As usual the order arrived from Germany in 4 or 5 days by courier and was well packaged. I couldn't see any quoted weights anywhere for this derailler and was expecting a slight weight penalty compared to the Deore. In factthe Acera weighs 278g which is very close to the Deore and lighter than some versions. I've not fitted it yet but it seems decent quality and a good option for anyone wanting a cheap 9 speed derailler.

Looks like a rebadged Deore mech now that Deore has/is going 10-speed

RoseBikes Germany (online order)

Post by LHTandy »

Hello Chap/esses,

I'd been researching Alfine 11 hubs for some weeks and came across a good price from Rose bikes but couldn't find many reviews of Rosebikes (probably because of my lack of search skills ) so here is one...

Great and speedy service!

it arrived well packaged and the box was undamaged. however, although the hub itself was wrapped in bubble wrap it was loose in the box; seems fine though! I ordered it on the Sunday and I received it from Germany at my house in the North of England by Thursday lunch time.

Postage was £5
the hub was £282 which included the hub, the shifter, the rear cog (20t) and gear cable and the vertical dropout non turn washers.

So in conclusion, it was the best price I could find at the time and RoseBikes have been great!

Yes, I rate RoseBikes aswell, particularly for dynamos, lights etc. Their own brand clothing is also very good aswell and the sizing is realistic. An added benefit is that huge catalogue which you get every year and allows you loads of time to drool.

I think there are a few posts on these page praising Rose. I have had several order from them and all have been faultless. If you want the hub building into a wheel I have several wheels both 26 and 700 and all have been faultless. Orders take about 3 to 5 days to get here from Germany. There own brand stuff seems pretty good as well. There prices are good on some things and slightly less so on others.

+1 here for Rose.
Ditto Bike-24 and (a new one to me) Bike Discount, who have in the last hour delivered a pair of Schwalbe Ice Spikers ordered on Monday - much cheaper than any UK supplier for these even with £5 courier charge.
The weekend comes, my cycle hums

I've used Rose, Action, bike24 And Bike-Discount. All very good. If it comes in the post, it doesn't matter if it crosses a little bit of water does it?

Don't make the same mistake that I did with their huge catalogue. I put it in the recycling bin and struggled when I needed to find something online. With the 'paper' catalogue you can at least look at components rather than trying to use all the search possibilities for the item you want.

I've independently reached the same conclusion.

It's a great piece of bike porn.

I've just finished dealing with Rose bikes over a period of two months. Their sales service is nothing less than superb. They sent the wrong speedhub (dont know if it was their fault or mine. It was in my possession for six months before I came to fit it) and they immediately sent a freepost return label by email while posting another hub at the same time  I lost one of the cable guides. They sent another free. I asked some technical questions about the cables. They were on the phone the following day to explain!

I dont know of another company that would go to that much trouble for it's customers.

I have a front wheel which has stayed true for 21000 miles and still looks good. I have also have a set of 26 inch wheels which I have used for trail riding anfd general use still true. The front wheel is a dynohub they farmed out the build to a traditional local builder in Germany. I believe he built the MTB set also. I am well pleased with both sets

Another thing their manual appears to have been written by a German speaking englishman rather than an english speaking German. I've found that a problem with Japanese stuff all the time. They use english speaking Japanese and much of there explanations end up double dutch.

Am I just lucky, or are Rose doing a free p+p promo? I've just submitted my 3rd order in about 2 months, and all 3 have all been carraige free :D They were all small value orders - c£30. I can't see anything on the website that says anything about this.
