Fitting mudguards to suspension corrected forks.

I'm fitting mudguards to a pair of solid forks that are suspension corrected. I have eyelets at the bottom so no problem there but at the top the crown mounting point is way higher than the mudguard will reach. What do people use to bridge the gap? Looking for some thing quite neat for preference.

Neatest is to use a wine bottle cork (or similar) as a spacer with a bolt up through the mudguard and cork to a fitting underneath the fork crown.
It does however depend on having the threaded hole under the fork crown.

If you haven't, it may be possible to use a short section of broom handle wedged into the bottom of the steerer and secured via the regular mudguard bolt hole, with the mudguard screwed into the bottom end of the broom handle.

I've used a piece of flat mild steel about 20mmx2mm the right length, drilled at both ends and painted to suit.

At least that's braced against the fork so it shouldn't wobble too much. Has it damaged the fork paint yet?

I can't help but think that some short stays from the brake bosses might be the thing on a bike with cantis.

If there were two each side running backwards to the standard mounting tab on the mudguard, and another pair running forwards to the end of the mudguard -French style- I'd imagine that might work nicely.

On a disc-only fork, maybe off the low rider bosses would work?

Or how about a "V brake booster"?

CRC have a thermoplastic one (& used to do a nice alloy one) There also are a couple listed on Ebay for under £5 that might be worth a punt on.
