hmm not entirely sure what I think, the fine could have been heftier considering his rather large income,
should he go to prison? perhaps it would teach him and his ilk a lesson, but at 'our cost'? With those wages he earns he should be fined enough to cover a prison spell..
I guess at least community service should at least teach him to roll his sleeves up and do something positive in the local community....
I wonder who tipped the police off, that they just happened to be in the right place just at the right time

It sounds like hubris but it's hard to know what sort of advice he's been given. Apparently he's not passed a UK driving test because his English isn't good enough. I see that he was disqualified for failing to identify the driver when he was sent the relevant police forms after two separate alleged speeding offences. His solicitor apparently told the court at that time that his client had not understood what "constabulary" meant. BTW, the solicitor, prominently discussed in yesterday's papers seems to revel in a certain fame with Manchester City players - Claud the Conjurer (not his real name.)
When he was arrested, it seems he'd driven down the road to his local hotel/ golf club and somebody grassed him up. The hotel's website notes that it has an FA approved training pitch where guests can spot the soccer stars. I'm left wondering if the reg plate makes him easy to spot.
I don't suppose we are going to see him on the embankment by a main road litter picking in a hi-viz tabard emblazoned with "community payback."

There was a suggestion some time ago that illegal drivers' cars would be legally seized and either crushed or auctioned for the public purse. I wonder what became of it?
In this case the punishment effect of fines or confiscation of vehicle for a mega-earner are just a joke. Apart from an actual jail sentence the career disruption of community service seems to be about the best outcome here

He comes from a country where lying cheating and breaking the law is the norm. So now he is in this country its quite hard for him to adjust. Should have been banned for 12 months from the new offence IMO. He has got off lighter than a Brit would have because he has fame and money. They were too soft.

Yes it must have been really hard for him, poor foreigner. I am pleased to see that all our British born and bred Football stars dont act that way. As they are from a civilised law abiding country and not lousy Johny Foreigners.

Some of you guys have obviously never spent time in Rgland! It's not racist at all its just fact. One pair of cycle tourists recently had to have a police escort going through Mendoza or risk being assaulted and all their gear stolen, its the norm there.

If Mr Boliver turns out to have been wrong, I'll predict that a second conviction for this might result in a suspended sentence, rather than immediate impt.

I hope his community service will include plenty of match days, with appropriate loss of wages. I somehow doubt it though, his fans would be devastated, and we all know that football is sacrosanct
