British Made

Post by Drake »

After watching a local tv news program last night, showing a young couple trying to buy only British made goods . . it made me wonder about the cycle industry .
Are there any British bicycle component manufacturers that are based and produce in the U.K ?

USE in Sussex do a few bits besides their Exposure Lights range and there a few custom frame builders dotted around the country and Broks saddles of course. Off the top of my head I think the only countries in the world where you could build an entire bike from parts made in that country would be Germany, Japan, Switzerland (maybe) and probably China.

X-lite?

BTW I'm not sure these Swissers and Germans could do it either (unless it is a 'plastic bike' in which case same problem with materials..?); happy to be proven wrong, but no frame tubing...?

cheers

Carradice?
Whilst not "technically" a "component", their bags do go on bikes.

Re-straps.

I get the impression there is a bit of a resurgence in this at the moment, with some really nice frames coming out of the newer builders, such as Robin Mather, Donhou, Shand, Feather.

Crud mudguards are made in Pickering. They are pretty handy too, at least the MTB ones...

Not components, but worthy of note?

My Halfords tyre levers are stamped Made in England.

TF2 lubricant is UK made apparently.

Naturally my Mercian frame was made here, but frame builders have already been mentioned.

Am guessing here, but are Ceeway's castings made in UK?

Talking of them, they've a good list of UK frame-builders, that's nice and long.
