where to get some 'away from the norm' cycling clothing.

Post by ton »

looking for some nice and tidy cycling clothing.
not wanting anything technical from the likes of endura/altura type brands, and rapha is too small.
looking for some nice three quarter trousers and some nice smart t shirts.

any ideas greatly appreciated.
enjoy it, it only last a short while

T-shirt wise most of the "technical" offerings from the outdoorsy brands should be suitable. IMO Rohan look and feel smarter than most

there is a rohan shop in Leeds in the Victoria Quarter.
some nice clothing but a bit more walking specific.
i have found some bontrager commuter trousers which are ideal, not too pricey also.
enjoy it, it only last a short while

there are a few companies catering for the trendy "urban cyclist".Swerve being one of them. That sort of manufacture seems to be reveiwed on Road CC a bit. there is another, Vulpine, as well. Nice smart kit that is tailored for bikes. Needless to say, as this is a very small market the prices can be high.

+1 on Vulpine, but as said a bit pricey, but very well finished

Buy the best waist shorts you can find and go to SportsWorld to buy some 'ordinary' clothes to hide them.

Don't make the mistake of spending over £100 on a pair of fashionable trousers, just to be bumped off onto the pavement and they get permanently damaged.
Get a pair of £15 Adidas training 3/4 length trousers, with stripes down the side.

I can vouch for these - got several pairs and use them for commuting and general use. Light, dry in no time, pack small, secure pockets.

TKMaxx is your friend

I picked up some Craghoppers Kiwi Stretch Pro trousers and 3/4 for silly low prices last year and they are superb for cycling

They always have stacks of gear that is outdoor / cycling suitable

Depending on how hard you work while cycling running or walking clothing serves very well. I use Paramo, Rohan and Montane among other makes. All of them are good.

Rohan still have stock in their "Souk" (discontinued stuff reduced) of some sizes of their "Cadence Polo" - looks like a zip front polo but with a cut more for cycling & with a small rear pocket for odds & ends.

Aldi running shirts are good (& cheap) - but sometimes the designs are too sporty rather than plain it just depends on what they come up with. It may be worth taking a look at their Bamboo Base Layers that were in yesterday's (18th) specials.

Plenty of choice of shirts at Go Outdoors from £2.57 (plus £5 for a discount card if you don't already have one). 3/4 length trousers too.
