Bargain,bulky,bag.
I`ve just finished fitting my new front carrier top bag.
I found i was often needing something a bit bigger than the old Karrimor.
This is a fishing bag from Lidl,£8.
Insulating foam, carrying straps, handles and false bottom removed,it`s permanently attached, and reinforced with the lower part of a plastic container out of a skip.
A handy increase in capacity from approx 5 to 14Lts
Opps,sorry about the picture quality

That is very cool. I'm after a bar bag but am really hampered by bar top levers and the gear cable from my right shifter. Might well have a punt on that front rack and the same bag if I can get hold of one. Incidentally do you know what the bag weighs and the inner dimensions of the main bit, specifically do you think an ipad (25cm by 20cm or 10 by 8 in old money) would fit in?

The bag is in Aldi in this weeks Thursday specials.
Note that the rack is designed for cantilever/ V brake mountings.

You'll never know if you don't try it.

Hi
Just measured the internal dimensions of the plastic bin base that sits inside the bag and they are 11"x8 1/2",with a depth of 5 1/2".
Couldn`t tell you what it weighs,as it is now secured to the rack top plate.
No more than you would expect of this size bag in cordura-type material.
BTW,it isn`t waterproof.
Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
Lidl are selling a rack that can be mounted on the seatpost or handle bars from today.

Another bargain solution.
A shame they don`t give more information regarding clamp diameter, and whether it is angle adjustable enough to go on the front.

It does state that you can mount on the handlebars. That is what attracted my attention, but as you say no clamp information. I assume that the clamp size will be around about 1" or 27mm as that matches most seatposts, just a hunch though.

Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
Wrt that lidl rack. It weighs 750g which is a bit much for a clip on rack. I haven't unwrapped it properly as I might return it. I was wanting a lighter weight luggage solution on my bike for summer, but this thing weighs the same as my pannier rack!
Otoh I might keep it as the main heavy bits are quick release so on days when I don't take luggage (at least half for me) and it does hold a shoulder bag nicely as it has webbing straps and for £9 I'm not sure it's worth going all the way across town to lidl again!
On the other other hand, more than half of the weight is in the seat lamp which remains attached, so it still adds nearly a pound to the bike even when it is not doing anything...

Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
That cheapo one i`m using,according to the spec,weighs 240g.
It is attached to the canti brake bosses and the fork mudguard bolt though
10kg limit,i think.

Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
Yes, big difference that! I'll be ordering one of them tomorrow I think. I looked at the aldi fish bag today and am not really into it personally - think it is a bit big for my needs - but I will probably get a bungee net and use the ebay rack to carry my "normal" bags...

Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
Just back from Lidl with that bike carrier thingy and am taking it back tomorrow.
I was hoping to use it on the handlebars but there is no way it can possibly go on. The bracket bit only moves up and down and doesn't turn, so no idea how you are suppose to mount it on your handle bars.

Re: Bargain,bulky,bag.
They had a set of 3 large rear panniers for £12.99 - so I thought great.
Fitted OK but with velcro and no clips (not so good).
As soon as I started to ride my heal crashed into the bags. So adjusted them back a bit but would not go back far enough. My heal kept banging them. This is a major design fault.
Most panniers are cut away to allow ideally for your heal to turn.
Are there other panniers that have this problem?
Also bought the Tool Kit and Chain cleaner - which both seem to be good value.
I did take them back for a refund
