Recommend me a winter top

Thinking now might be a good time to look for thermal tops/jackets. my current wardrobe is old and knackered. So what's best for winter rides?

depends on how 'heavy' a top you want, or if you want windstopper etc., Try Ground Effect, a New Zealand company so it is their season for winter tops and they do a wide range of stuff inc merino baselayers....

In a sale is my idea. I'm thinking something like a fairly warm windstopper thermal top. Loads of cheap stuff from China etc on ebay. Then there's the Atura windproof jacket, maybe Lusso stuff? What do you wear when it's cold but dryish?

Layers and a gilet

I have a Cannondale version of windstopper that I got in spring sales a few years ago. It does a surprisingly good job of not letting the wind through, and it has lots of pockets

I also like my Altura nightvision thermals, though they don't have the windstopper fabric. As eileithyia, suggested, I tend to dress in layers, mostly so I can remove them when I warm up or add them when I stop cycling.

When it's cold, I'm more likely to wear wool than anything else, and add a rain jacket if it rains.

I just more layers on and always try to let a bit of air through so that my body can breathe (not sweat excessively)

I like a jacket to be windproof on the front, arms and shoulders, but with a big breathable panel on the back.
My current one is Lusso, but as its a couple of years old, I don't recognise it in their current offerings.

That's the kind of thing I'm after. I can still add a compression top underneath, a gilet if required and a thin waterproof too. Some of the offerings look good but just silly money. I have been using a Briko jacket for about ten years now (think my wife picked it up from a charity shop) and it's been great. The elasticated areas are beginning to give up this year now.
