Whoops! Now corrected. Was copying and pasting two things for two purposes. The other party is probably similarly confused!

Praed St, Chapel St, cross Marylebone to Lisson Grove, turn on to canal path. Takes you all the way to St Pancras. 5.7k, according to www.bikehike.co.uk

Fabulous! That would be pleasant on a nice summer morning.

It has its critics I know, but I quite like the Tavistock Place route. It is, if nothing else, an interesting piece of cycle infrastructure.

So I'd use the 'Balanced' route here, and had no problem following it the first time, though I do know London fairly well... http://www.cyclestreets.net/journey/2405512/

About to do Kings Cross to Paddington and then the same in reverse - peak time both ways. Has anybody else tried this route and what do you think of it? Any one-way sections to watch out for?

I use this route quite regularly. It's fine, Euston Rd is worth avoiding.

Depends - some people enjoy cycling in London, some don't. I do and enjoy the straight run down Euston Rd in the bus lane past all the stationary traffic much more than the stop-start of threading your way through the back streets and moving cars. You need to be comfortable filtering through traffic and between lanes though 8) . There are a few places you need to take care in each direction. Going Paddington to KX its getting into primary before each of the traffic lights on Marylebone Rd and watching out for vehicles in the lane to your right wanting to turn left, the slip road off at TCR to avoid the underpass and at Great Portland St where a left turn lane appears and creates a bit of chaos as left turning vehicles try to get over from the straight on lanes. In the reverse direction it is the road divide at Great Portland St and getting in the straight ahead lane, crossing onto the cycle path bypass of the TCR underpass across two lanes of left turning traffic and getting off the cycle path at the other end back onto the slip road rejoining TCR where you can conflict with traffic coming onto the slip road from your right. Going that way I reckon about 15 mins comfortably station to station.

A quick look round the Outer Circle in Google Streetview shows "no cycling no skating" painted on the ground at all the entry points I looked at - so I'm guessing they don't want people cycling (or skating)!

This more or less, cycle as you like, they do not like cycling it seems but are happy to have the parks turned into rat run festivals every day.

Not quite true and they have opened up the Broadwalk in Regent's Park to cyclists - http://www.royalparks.org.uk/about-us/c ... broad-walk

A summary of permitted cycling in the Royal Parks - the only place where speed limits do apply to bicycles - is available at http://www.royalparks.org.uk/about-us/c ... oyal-parks and in the past when the Royal Parks have done something stoopid for cycling a letter to their Chief Exec has usually got rapid action. Their cycling policy is set out in http://www.royalparks.org.uk/__document ... y_2008.pdf

Yes quite, they seem to actively go out of their way to make cycling in some aspects a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

I used to do this commute daily on my Brompton, and tried most of the possible route permutations over the years. Eventually I found that a high-speed run along Marylebone Road/Euston Road was preferable (about 18 minutes train to office), and it's quite possible to fit in with the prevailing pace of traffic. You can normally do the underpass through the middle of the two lanes of (usually stationary) traffic. If journey time is not an issue, then the various routes to the south of Euston road are OK. The canal route is pleasant but a long way round.

This is part of my commute and to be honest I take the Euston road but not the underpass as you can cycle around it. I am not a big fan of the canal path as the Camden bit is busy and narrow. Also at the moment there is a diversion on the canal path so you have to find your way around.

Another route I do is on the south side of the Euston road, following my nose. The advantage is that near Russell square there is a segregated cycle path and a short hop from there to kings cross.
