My mother's Christmas cake will propel you for a hundred miles. I love malt loaf, a good fruit cake and I've lately discovered Lincolnshire Plum Bread. Bara Brith is very good. All I find excellent fuel.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?
I run a fell-race, up near Haworth, every January & we get it free when we sign-in
it rarely survives as far back as Bradford, it's generally devoured post-race, whilst scraping the mud off the legs, & emptying water out of the Inov-8s
I have always been an Eccles cake man myself in rucksack or bikebag, however I will try Soreen, I like it. Does anyone remember the advert "Dont forget the Soreen Doreen"?

I do. Another dud ad campaign, by the sound of it.
PS I even remember "Don't forget the Kia Ora, Aurora."

Love Soreen, plus it does give the jaw a decent workout too

Just come back from a shop at Aldi, and now know what the fuss is about - you're right, very tasty. Will try a couple of slices next time I potter up Cumnor Hill to see if the 'rocket fuel' claim is true, too!

Glad you weren't disappointed I'd take a few extra slices, just to be on the safe side of course

Humdrum, no Soreen in this neck of the bois. We do get moist pain d'épices, which is like gingerbread without the ginger. But I could always ask Mrs. A to whip up a Dundee cake...
