nice. Are the sprockets the same spline as the SA ones that were used at one time by any chance?
You can tell why it most likely survived too; it has a grease nipple!

That's nice, why weren't they all like that? Patents perhaps. It would surely have saved some broken axles.

Yes, very nice. If someone had asked me what the first cassette hub was I would have said Shimano 600 or thereabouts. And that's what you call a grease nipple.

Wow - that's indeed an interesting item. Viewed from a distance I would have said Shimano! I wonder if that's where they (Shim) got the idea?

Didn't Cinelli have a cassette hub in the late 40's, the Bivalent?
Selbach patented a similar system in 1932, but not as elegant as the Italians!

Yours is the BSA IGH hub, a patent later taken up by Sturmey Archer.
