531 Steve Thornhill Frame

Post by h.whistleford »

Hi Guys,

I was hoping you could give me some help. I have recently inherited an old 531 frame, it’s branded up as ’Steve Thornhill’ who I believe was a bike builder in my local area, Birmingham. However he didn’t make the frames but bought them in from other frame builders and made them up himself with his own decals and paintwork. I don’t suppose you’d be able to shed any light on the original frame manufacturer by just looking at the frame ands style of welding? I’ve attached a couple of pictures and would really appreciate any help you could give.

Cheers

I've recently acquired an old bike too and been doing some digging around B'ham builders and my uneducated and rather novice suggestion would be to check out Mercian in connection with the Thornhill frame. Hope that helps.

I t looks quite like my Coca Cola badged 531c which I bought from Ron Kitching twenty odd years ago.

That was I believe made by Nigel Dean who produce frames for others.
