That looks like the airbed which Ed Hillary slept on in 1953 with a bit of fluff in the tubes.

If that is the answer to the purgatory that is a Thermarest, I want one. My bruising is subsiding after 2 weeks of Thermarest. A deeper mat at a reasonable weight is just what I need to tempt me into using the tent again.

I do agree about sleeping mats, horrid things! I remember the feeling.
The Exped looks very nice but it seems quite heavy and expensive. Alright if you are on an incremental pay scale
A cheaper alternative. http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/ ... oCVevw_wcB
Plus part of a small roll of this. http://www.screwfix.com/p/radiator-refl ... oCLnjw_wcB.
Total weight about 700g cost £26 with some foil left over to put behind your radiators. You can also leave the foil behind in summer.. Saving 250g

Is it a prayer mat?

I use the basic exped mat. I can vouch that it is really comfortable, especially if not blown up rock hard, just enough to keep hip bone and shoulders off the ground. My son has a synmat and although it is lighter, it is also shinier, so possibly not so nice to sleep on. My basic has been good value too, into its fourth year and still going strong with no p********.

Doesn't take much to inflate and I sleep as well on one of these as I do in my bed at home

(PS, admittedly, I sleep like a corpse. I'm that "What storm?" person. Even in a tent.)

They do an airmat version of that, which is basically the same but without the synthetic filling. About half a kilo lighter. Looks nice!
