It wasn't just hostility at one time it was an outright ban which meant that organisations like political parties couldn't be charities and even Oxfam sailed pretty close to the wind. AIUI this has been relaxed over the last few years which allowed the CTC to convert. It may be of course that the tide has turned which could leave the CTC, well, beached.

I' ve no issue with campaigning charities. As long as they raise their own funds. I don't agree with any charity which is largely funded by taxpayers doing political campaigns.
