Spa Dynamo & Wheel Bundle

Post by Shoogle »

Anybody used Spa Cycles for the SP-PD8 dynamo and wheel bundle? I'm not sure about these hubs as apparently they aren't user serviceable.

Hi, I bought my SP hub from Trident cycles and it's gone faulty. Thankfully it's a 2year guarantee. I sent the wheel back to the shop and they are doing the rest.
OK it cost more to send a wheel but I don't have to pay for wheel rebuilding, and SP were happy with this as they could test it in situ.

Was it the bearings or the electrics?

I think the period of guarantee is important

My SP hub (from Spa) also went faulty after a few months use. It tested as if there was a short circuit in the windings, though I received no confirmation of this - just a replacement hub. The new hub has been fine.

I have two SP PV8 hubs, one is over 2 years old and has covered in excess of 20,000 miles, the other is 18 months old and has over 9,000 miles use. That's all weather year round Welsh mileages  No problems so far :D

Anyone have any experience of the newer & smaller SV-9 ?
I've not yet seen any bad reports, but reports of any nature are still elusive.
I sometimes toy with the idea of giving my Brompton a hub dynamo upgrade.
