Holiday in France St malo La Rochelle

Post by anniesboy »

My wife and I are taking bikes on car, ferry to St Malo then onto La Rochelle.
We are staying in Logis Hotels (five in total).Staying near Plouhinec, Port St Pere, La Rochelle, Fontenay le Comte,Hede.

Any suggestions as for places to visit / things to see etc welcome.
We are not looking to cycle too far from hotel base ( 50 miles round trip perday)

The Puy du Fou is a must. Its practically unknown in the UK but its the most fantastic Son et Lumiere in Europe. Starts at 10pm after dark

But… it has to fit with your dates.

Also call in at Guerande, a wonderful small medieval town.

On the LR day(s), one day can be spent on a leisurely cycle around the Ile de Ré - it's excellent, laid back, refreshing.

Nice beaches on the south side if that's your thing. Lots of other things to see and do - the lighthouse at the East end, pretty villages and loads of nice restaurants. A fair amount of traffic, but cycle paths are everywhere.

If you want a good competitively priced meal at the end of your trip we enjoyed Les 4 Sergents. Sensible prices as a step back from the front and excellent seafood.

From Plouhinec, the world-famous standing stones at Carnac should be well within your range for a day ride.
